Beetle’s birth explosion killing not just trees, but forests

The critter is the Mountain Pine Beetle, and the cause behind its two-generations-a-year life history is made possible by climate change, as this NY Times “science section” article makes clear. I remember when an outbreak was detected at Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, eastern shore of Virginia, and was fought, in part, by felling trees manually to prevent the insect’s spread among other loblolly pines.
