This is encouraging news from Maine. In the Pacific Northwest, the greatest thing humans could do to help recover salmon runs is start taking down some of the hydroelectric dams that have blocked their migrations now for many decades.

That is indeed heartening news for Maine and Atlantic salmon. I’m with you on “rewilding” America. Would love to see more of our west coast dams come down… but fear population growth & energy needs necessitate more coal-burning power plants, which means more mercury… Look at the DNR page for virtually every state: fish consumptions warnings. mercury… Meanwhile, we have HUGE problems with genetic contamination from hatcheries out here.
