Death of albattross may lead to tighter rules for fishing

The bird killed last April was the first short-tailed albatross on the West Coast known to have died from grabbing a baited hook trailed by a commercial fishing boat, said Rob Suryan, an Oregon State Universityresearcher who leads the team responsible for saving the endangered albatross from extinction. The death was reported by a federal observer onboard a boat out of Newport, Ore, the Associated Press reported. Read the whole report.
