One legacy of coal mining

Gee, this looks like fun. But these kayakers, while having fun and enjoying their hobby, are floating on water tainted by acid mine drainage, a poison that’s lethal to aquatic critters like native brook trout. This photo was taken along a reach of Nescopeck DSC_0058Creek some six miles from where I sit.
