Marine life on a warming planet

Humans’ continued pumping into the atmosphere of carbon dioxide – sometimes by the stupidest of chores like driving to the mailbox rather than walking there – is damaging the future of marine life. You can read more.

Plants will be hard put to handle greenhouse gases, scientists say

Another telling bit of evidence is outlined in this newspaper narrative: http://azstarnet.com/news/science/plants-will-be-hard-put-to-handle-global-warming-gas/article_e106b776-6d2c-551d-ae01-65f0feda0485.html

An area of Arctic ice bigger than the U.S. melted this year

The evidence continues to mount, and still the deniers in Congress won’t tackle the issue.

Stand still for the apocalypse

Is columnist Chris Hedges pushing the envelope in this piece? Or is he on the mark? I’d bet that NASA’s James Hansen would agree with Hedges’s points.

UN report warns of widening climate gap

Sure, today’s a holiday. And that means the bulldozers of “progress” are mostly stilled for the day. But they will be back, leveling more forests, more individual trees and fragmenting migration routes and more. And all the while, the climate keeps changing and humans are responsible. Here’s the latest report from the United Nations.

Quote of the week

World Meteorological Organization Secretary-General Michel Jarraud said the 350 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide added to the atmosphere since 1750 “will remain there for centuries, causing our planet to warm further and impacting on all aspects of life on earth.”

The idiots who don’t believe global warming, or climate change, or any other slice of science

My friend conservation columnist Ted Williams offers this insightful look at the deniers. Whatta crew.

Global disaster? Climate change not on today’s media agenda

According to the National Climatic Data Center, July 211 to June 2012 was the hottest 12-month stretch on human record. But even as the devastation resulting from humanity’s ongoing alteration of the Earth’s atmosphere became more and more obvious, coverage of the 2012 presidential election campaign seemed completely impervious to the effects of climate change,”the media watchdog organization FAIR reported. You can read about FAIR’s findings right here. The conservation impact of what we humans are doing to our fish and wildlife heritage by burning fossil fuels goes well beyond the crisis faced by one or two species.

Let the coal burn! And China and India are doing just that

Amazing the amount of press time/coverage a lousy rock, aka “coal,” gets around the world. And never mind the carbon dioxide emitted whenever a supply of those rocks are burned – for heat, for electricity, for steam, etc. What would the Molly Maguires think today? Read here to learn about the role of coal in China and India. Not good.

New super-Earth found may be just right to support life

That would be “human” life, of course. So, if this article’s premise is correct, we can just keep on trashing planet Earth (the one we’re on now) because when it has been thoroughly trashed, we can simply rocket off to “super-Earth.” Makes a lot of stupid sense. Now, where did i put the cylinder of carbon dioxide?
