Noise pollution is changing forests

To this veteran naturalist and conservationist, this headline is hardly surprising. For more than a decade, I had the pleasure of running two routes in Pennsylvania for the federal government’s Breeding Bird Survey. This is a roadside project. One drives a 25-mile pre determined route, stopping every half mile and recording all the bird species seen or heard in those minutes. Such work really puts one in touch with just how pervasive noise pollution has become, even at 0500 on the clock.
