Pix of wolves taking down a bull moose

February 16, 2007 · 2 Comments

Ted Williams posted this item at his blog this morning. Take a look, then take a second view as you read the narrative by John Vucetich, who just happened to be in the right place at the right time over Isle Royale National Park, Mich. Very cool stuff.

Vucetich closes his narrative with this statement:

At some unknown moment, the moose’s spirit passed, and the spirit of the East Pack wolves was renewed. This miracle of life and death occurs several times a week on Isle Royale. Worldwide, more than 250 species live by the flesh of other warm-blooded animals. Except for plants and scavengers, all animals live from the living flesh of some other organism. In such a world, no day is routine. Only lack of awareness makes the day seem routine.

In my childhood I lived with my peoples and Earth Mother’s families. Each day was very focused and sustainable. All reality as a human was as the tail end of food. In other words everything else ate before we did.

I really miss those instincts of hunger as humility and wisdom.

My Sisters and Brothers the Wild Wolves and Moose teach much more than pictures will ever reveal.

I am safe knowing humans know little, maybe we are still an experiment. I hope so.

    Wa-do,
