Traffic inflicts record toll on Florida’s panthers

By Alan Gregory

58 roadkill panthers since 2000? And there’s only about 100 living in the wild today in the “Sunshine State?” The Miami Herald’s Curtis Morgan reports on the roadkill toll.

Remember that Florida gains about 1,000 new human residents each day.

58? That’s an incredibly high number. Obviously some sort of animal detecton system needs to be put in place.

At a minimum, I’d say. The loss of the Florida panther is the extreme, and most telling case, of the impact that human economic activity is having on our fish and wildlife.
