It’s a “dubious” record, the Miami Herald notes in its headline over this Associated Press article. But some panther experts, the article notes, say the year’s 11th car vs. cat fatality has a positive side — more panthers = more subject to roadkill. It’s a strange and odd bit of spin. In any case, this dead panther is yet another reminder of the impact roads/highways have on wildlife, especially those bound to terra firma.

”It’s just a tragic result of the increased development in the area,” Elizabeth Fleming of the environmental group Defenders of Wildlife told the Naples Daily News. “The only place in the world where Florida panthers are found is one of the fastest-growing areas of the country.”
